The Streakday app implements the Permastreak™ method, a meta-habit that helps you beat procrastination and stick to daily routines.

Probably you know this problem: You want to do something that would be good for you in the long term, but in the short term, you want just the opposite. Take eating healthy as an example. While you might really want to cut back on eating sweets, you might just as much want to eat that doughnut in front of you right now.

In this situation, it’s just too easy to convince yourself that eating just one doughnut doesn’t have a noticeable impact, and that from tomorrow you’ll definitely resist all temptations. And indeed, this one doughnut doesn’t make a real difference. But when you repeat this thinking, time after time, you don’t get any closer to your longterm goal.

The Permastreak™ method helps you to avoid this pitfall by making the impact of your daily actions clear without pressuring you.

How It Works:
===========
1. Each day, you create a to-do list for the next day. You can add as many tasks you want, and they can stay the same or change. But anything you add, you commit to do.

2. When you fail on a day, instead of breaking your streak, the streak only gets weaker. Your streak has several levels. After failing some task, you drop to the next lower level. But after some time, your streak level automatically increases again and your streak regenerates.

3. Now, why would you care if your streak level drops? Here’s the catch: When you fail a task, you also have to take a break - your streak freezes, and you cannot add new tasks for a few days. When you’re on the highest streak level, the break only lasts one day. But if your streak level is lower, then the break lasts longer.

Why It Works:
===========
It’s important to view breaks as regeneration periods, and not as penalties for failing tasks. There’s no pressure to do the tasks. You can always decide to take a break instead. But streak freezes make you realise that if you don’t do it today, you’re less likely to do it in general. And the excuse of simply doubling down tomorrow doesn’t work anymore. At the same time, continuing after failing is much easier because your streak always continues.
